Samuel Green - 3 Generations

Genealogy of Samuel Green, "Logg Gaol" Johnsonburg, Hardwick Township., New Jersey

Samuel Green and his 3rd wife Hannah Wright/ Reyt were the parents of "Rebekha "Rebecca" Green the 2nd wife of my 6th great grand father Francis Glover which (I will blog in a future post about how Rebekha and Francis Glover met, wed and later her emigration to "The Forty" Grimsby, Lincoln County, Ontario, Canada in a future blog. More importantly WHY!

Some sources suggest Samuel's father Richard Green, an early West Jersey settler originally arrived on the ship called the "Shield". I have not been able to prove this todate.

Samuel Green an English immigrant was originally the surveyor for Gloucester County. By 1729 he was promoted to the"Deputy Surveyor General" in the province of New Jersey.

Samuel Green married three (3) times (Margaret Kemp, Sarah Bull and Hannah Wright/Reyt). Samuel's 1st first wife, Margaret Kemp died before he moved to Amwell Township, Hunterdon County. His 2nd wife Sarah Bull was a member of the Bull family of Gloucester County. Sarah died before Samuel Green moved to Sussex County (now Warren County). Samuel’s 3rd wife Hannah Wright/Reyt, daughter of Dutch immigrants John Wright and Orcha Harmanus who settled in Amwell Township. Although I include Samuel's first 2 marriages my focus is on the marriage of Samuel Green to Hannah Wright/Reyt.

Recently I discovered that Hannah Wright's parents (John Wright and Orca Harmanus) are documented as Jan Reyt and Aertie Orka Bras as alternative spellings in while researching New Jersey historical documents. Reference to Hannah's mother also included: Aertie "Orka" Bras, as well as Orcha Harmanus.

Samuel Green died in "Logg Gaol" now Johnsonburg, Hardwick Township, Sussex County, New Jersey. To help understand the changing of names/places/counties/townships the post / article regarding the Logg Gaol and Historical Background of New Jersey can be reviewed.
